PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Attorneys for Jodi Arias continue their defense today of the woman accused of murdering her ex-lover, Travis Alexander, in 2008.

The high-profile murder trial that has become a cable television sensation continues at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Maricopa County Superior Court in Phoenix.

Another of Arias' ex-boyfriends, Darryl Brewer, was on the stand Tuesday. He requested his face not be photographed or videotaped.

Arias and Brewer were together four years and even lived together for awhile.

Brewer testified that Arias was a very responsible, caring and loving person.

During cross examination, Brewer admitted that Arias changed when she started working for Pre-Paid Legal Services, where she met Alexander.

"I saw a lot of changes in Jodi," Brewer said. "She became a different person than I had known previously."

Arias claims she killed Alexander in self-defense and is expected to take the stand and testify on her own behalf.

She is accused of slitting Alexander's throat, stabbing him nearly 30 times and shooting him in the forehead in a jealous rage.

She has offered three versions of what happened in Alexander's Mesa apartment in 2008:

  • She was adamant at first that she knew nothing about the death of Alexander.
  • Masked intruders killed Alexander and she escaped.
  • She had killer her abusive, on-again, off-again boyfriend in self-defense.

A number of legal experts agree the primary goal for the defense will be to spare Arias the death penalty.
