TITUS, AL (WSFA) - An Elmore County man who told police he killed a woman after an argument following a long day of drinking has entered a guilty plea to manslaughter in her death.

According to authorities, Jamie Slay pleaded guilty to one count of manslaughter in the March 9, 2012 death of 31-year-old Patricia Allen. Elmore County Sheriff Bill Franklin said at the time of the crime Allen had died from a gunshot wound to the mouth from a 410 shotgun.

Slay told police before his arrest that Allen shot herself, he then changed his story to say that someone broke into the residence in the 9000 block of Titus road and shot her.

Sheriff Franklin said Slay and Allen consumed approximately 36 beers, a pint of vodka and a fifth of whiskey that day. After deputies collected forensic evidence from the scene and showed it to Slay, Slay admitted that he and Allen were arguing when he shot her. Slay told authorities he hid the shotgun 200 yards away from the crime scene in a wooded area.

Slay was arrested and charged with murder. Now he has entered a guilty plea for manslaughter in Allen's death.

A sentencing hearing for Slay will be scheduled in the coming weeks.
