BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -
Two teens fell through the ice while trying to walk across the Saginaw River. It happened in Bay City South of the Veterans Memorial Bridge.
"I believe it was just two kids playing. They walked from the west side to the east side and didn't quite make it," said Sgt. Mike Charter with the Bay City Police Department.
Police said one teen grabbed a piece of ice and pulled himself out of the water. He took off his shirt and pulled his friend to safety.
A driver saw them and called 911. Firefighters helped get the boys off the ice without any incident. The Coast Guard also responded along with Bay City Police.
Medics took the boys to McLaren Bay Region. Doctors expect them to make a full recovery.
