A Charlotte television reporter is recovering in the hospital after she was hit by a vehicle during coverage of Wednesday night's severe weather.

Reporter Caroline Vandergriff, from Time Warner Cable's News 14, was reportedly shooting video of downed power lines at the intersection of East Morehead Street and Kenilworth Avenue in Charlotte.

That's when two vehicles collided at the intersection . One of the vehicles hit Vandergriff, who was standing nearby.

At the time of the wreck, the traffic lights were malfunctioning due to power outages from the storm.

She was taken to Carolinas Medical Center where she was last listed in stable condition.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with our friend and colleague," News 14 staff said in an online article posted on Thursday.

"Caroline Vandergriff is recovering today from injuries suffered Wednesday night in an accident while covering the aftermath of a severe storm," the news organization posted on its site on Thursday. "

"News 14 Carolina and Time Warner Cable are doing all we can to support Caroline and her family. She remains hospitalized at Carolinas Medical Center. She is awake, alert, upbeat and surprised at the attention this accident has generated. Her family flew in from Texas to be with her."

"All of us at News 14 Carolina and Time Warner Cable have her in our thoughts and prayers," the statement continued. "We wish Caroline a speedy recovery and will be with her every step of the way. We'll let you know how she's doing."

Vandergriff joined the News 14 team in mid-December.
