A car thief in Lake County arrested after driving the stolen vehicle to the Lake County Sheriff's parking lot.
A Painesville Township woman reported her husband's truck was stolen from their Dunbar Court driveway just before 7 a.m. Thursday morning. The woman said her husband was warming the truck before leaving for work, when a man stole the truck from the driveway.
She said her husband was attempting to follow the suspect in another vehicle. Lake County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to the area as the thief was reported to be heading into Painesville City.
As a lieutenant was getting ready to pull out of the Sheriff's Office parking lot, he heard tires squealing.
The lieutenant then observed a truck approaching west bound on Mentor Avenue operating recklessly. The driver of this vehicle apparently observed the lieutenant and proceeded to abruptly pull into the Sheriff's Office parking, traveled over a landscape island in the lot and then bailed out of the stolen truck.
The suspect - identified as 33-year-old Christopher E. Haller of Painesville Township - was arrested and charged with Motor Vehicle Theft.
The vehicle owner retrieved his stolen truck from the Sheriff's Office a short time later.
