VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -
Grand Saline ISD officials have confirmed that their schools are on external lockdown Thursday afternoon as a precautionary measure.
No one has been spotted on or near any Grand Saline ISD campus; however, in the wake of the Assistant DA being fatally wounded this morning in Kaufman County and the suspects possibly heading into Van Zandt County, police suggested a precautionary lockdown of the schools.
"The children are not going outside today," confirmed Superintendent Trish Elliott. No children are being sent home early, the doors are simply locked and school is going forward as usual.
Edgewood ISD confirms, as well, that they are on lockdown this afternoon.
School officials say that since the Kaufman County shooting suspects are at large, and as a result of another situation police are working in Edgewood, their doors are locked and children are staying inside today. Edgewood students are in class as usual, and no one is going home early, according to Edgewood ISD administration.
