SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -
The Saginaw Promise will accept a significant donation from the Wal-Mart Foundation and the Michigan State Giving Council.
The donation of $40-thousand will aid in implementing the organization's college scholarship program.
As of April 2009, the city of Saginaw was designated a "promise zone."
"The Walmart Foundation is proud to support the Saginaw Promise in their efforts to provide financial aid to those students who wish to continue their education after high school," said Walmart Market Manager Conni Mitchell. "Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are dedicated to supporting educational opportunities and encouraging young people to further their knowledge and achieve success."
In 2012, The foundation awarded scholarships to 90 students.
Legislation signed into law by former Gov. Jennifer Granholm will help students pay for college tuition. Any student in the Saginaw School district is eligible for a scholarship.
The donation from Wal-Mart will happen Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw.
