Military family heading home with quadruplets

Posted: Updated:

After losing multiple pregnancies, a military family is getting ready to head back home to New York with four new babies.

Wounded in combat, Sgt. Esdras Lucero returned home only to learn that his wife, Jessica Lucero, had not only lost twins, but faced a serious health concern that would prohibit them from having children again.

Not long after this news, the Luceros learned that they had become pregnant with quintuplets. Tragically, however, one of the babies passed away during delivery roughly six weeks ago.

But now, Jessica Lucero and her quadruplets are ready to head back home to upstate New York to reunite with their father and husband, who has been away since the birth of his children.

While in the care of Banner Health here in the Valley, members of Operation Homefront back in Watertown, NY, got together to help fix up the Lucero home, which was in major need of repair.

"Broken pipes that leaked water to the basement, the far wall that faced the street was insulated with cotton balls and duct tape, the windows weren't framed correctly," said Esdras Lucero.

"We're just so glad to be here and be able to help this family get through this time so that they have a home that's ready to accept their four babies that are coming home shortly," said Tracy Handschuh of Operation Homefront.

And just as the community gives thanks to Esdras Lucero for his service, he, too, gives thanks to those who have helped his family.

"After almost three years of struggle, I see things that are coming together in a way that a way that have honestly could have never been imagined," added Esdras Lucero.

Angel MedFlight will be flying Jessica Lucero and her babies home to upstate New York early Wednesday morning.
