PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Scammers posing as Le Cordon Bleu Scottsdale students have been going door-to-door in Phoenix neighborhoods asking for scholarships and charity donations.
Residents from Chandler, Glendale and Sun City became suspicious when the scammers claimed to be doing a community service project. They would request a donation that they claim would go towards a scholarship to Le Cordon Bleu in Paris, as well as a donation benefiting Phoenix Children's Hospital.
Officials from Phoenix Children's Hospital and Le Cordon Bleu have confirmed that no such scholarship or affiliation exists.
"We do not solicit door-to-door for donations," said Steve Schnall, senior vice president and chief development officer of Phoenix Children's Hospital. "It's a shame that people would use our name to benefit themselves and prey on our community's willingness to help our patients and families."
Call your local police department if you are approached by the scammers.
