HOMEWOOD, AL (WBRC) -
The March of Dimes kicked off its 75th Anniversary in Homewood Thursday with a special luncheon at Rosewood Hall.
The March of Dimes walk is the major fundraiser for the charity. This year's ambassador family, the Ellis family, had two children born prematurely. Madelyn Ellis was born at only three pounds but she's now healthy at nine years old. Kathryn, their second child, was born at 14 ounces but is now healthy at five years old.
"To me the March of Dimes symbolizes the future of healthy babies. I
don't want other parents to go through what we went through, facing the
mortality and immortality of our children," Kelly Ellis, the girls' mother, said.
