LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -

Undercover officers staked out the Las Vegas home of former Los Angeles police officer Christopher Dorner for hours on Thursday, evacuating people from the neighborhood near Fort Apache Road and Wigwam Avenue for their safety.

Police and FBI agents later raided the house, looking for clues to his whereabouts.

Police also sent alerts with Dorner's vehicle description to freeway signs across southern Nevada, fearing he might come here.

Dorner was identified as the suspect in the slaying of a couple in Irvine, CA, on Sunday and the ambush of officers in Riverside, CA, early Thursday. One of those officers was killed.

At Lock ‘N Load gun store on Eastern Avenue in Henderson, store manager Tony Melendez knew Dorner as a friendly customer.

"This was a guy who would come in once every other month, every couple of months. He was very cordial, very professional in his demeanor," Melendez said.

Dorner criticized Lock ‘N Load in a rant about gun control included in a manifesto he posted online, saying that despite not being a Nevada resident, he was able to purchase a Class 3 weapon with his military ID from the store.

While in Las Vegas, Dorner told Melendez and his neighbors he still worked in law enforcement.

"He stopped while I was washing my car, and we were talking about my car being broken into, and he told me he was a cop," neighbor Asmaa Boudjemaa said.

Boudjemaa hopes this nightmare will end soon.

"I hope that he gets caught, and I do feel bad that something like this happened to him. I don't know if it's him really, or I just don't know where this person came from, you know," he said.

Neighbors told FOX5 it appeared Dorner lived at his Las Vegas residence by himself. They haven't seen him in at least two weeks and actually thought he may have moved away because he was spotted moving belongings with a truck.
