HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Madison County judge granted a request to delay Iqbal Memon's trial.

Dr. Iqbal Memon and his wife Safia are charged with hindering prosecution. Investigators say the couple tried to get their son Hammad out of the country to avoid his murder trial.

Iqbal Memon's trial was set to begin Monday.

Iqbal Memon wants to delay his trial until the conclusion of his son's case.

The Shooting

Hammad Memon is charged with the February 2010 murder of Todd Brown.

Brown was shot and killed during a class change at Discovery Middle School in Madison. Memon was taken into custody by a school resource officer moments after the shooting.

Memon has been granted multiple mental evaluations since his arrest. He's in the Huntsville-Madison County Metro Jail without bond.

A trial date has not been set. Memon is expected in court for a status conference March 14.

Hindering Prosecution

Investigators say a Pakistani passport was delivered to Hammad Memon in April 2012. After learning of the delivery police tracked Memon and his mother to Texas.

Police say they found two passports and a large sum of money when the pair was arrested.

A judge revoked Hammad Memon's bond after he returned to Madison County.

His parents are out of jail on bond. Safia Memon's trial is set for April 15 at the Madison County Courthouse in Huntsville.
