FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

The recent snowfall and cold temperatures make for perfect conditions as Flint kicks off the Fire and Ice Festival.

The free event is put on by the Flint Downtown Development Authority. It runs Saturday, Feb. 9 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. in downtown Flint.

Live ice carvings will be featured in addition to fire themed displays.

There's also an ice skating rink. Skate rental is available free of charge but organizers said you can feel free to bring your own as well.

A Chili cook-off featuring eight local restaurants, including free samples.
