SOUTHFIELD, MI (WDIV/CNN) -
Love might not be the only thing in the air this Valentine's Day. Divorce papers will be on the way for one unlucky couple.
Perhaps their bad luck will be slightly mitigated by the fact that their divorce will be free of charge.
Southfield, MI, attorney Walter Bentley III plans to give away a free divorce on Valentine's Day to the couple with the best breakup story.
The idea, he says, came from a student in his law class.
"So she was having a divorce party to celebrate her divorce and I thought about Valentine's Day and said, 'hey, why not help someone move on to that independence on Valentine's Day?'" Bentley said.
Anyone interested in getting a free divorce simply has to write Bentley a note explaining their situation.
"It's terrible. Who would offer a free divorce for Valentine's Day? Valentine's Day is for love, not sorrow!" said florist Barb Cummings.
Bentley would normally charge $3,000 for a divorce.
"We're really looking for the most heartwarming, that person who truly deserves it," said Bentley.
