Rock concert raises money for autism

EVENDALE, OH (FOX19) -

Dozens of artists are rocking out in Evendale for a great cause.

The fourth annual Autism Rocks event was held on Sunday raising money for autism research. The event featured numerous bands playing on two stages at Peg's Pub on Reading Road.

The event started back in 2008 in honor of a boy named Parker. Parker Kahle was diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder in 2007. Due to struggles with an insurance company, Parker's family looked for ways to start a medical fund for their child. A rock concert was the answer.

Four years later, the event benefits numerous children with autism and features a long list of local bands and celebrities. Bootsy Collins, Eddie Fingers, Olympian Darrell Pace, Wildman Walker and numerous Ben-Gals alumni were all present at the event.

Money raised at this year's event will benefit Autism Speaks. Autism Speaks is the world's largest autism advocacy organization. The group has 17 different research facilities throughout the United States including Cincinnati Children's Hospital.

This year's event raised $17,084. The number has significantly surpassed donations from past events.

"Without stuff like this we cannot do what we do," said Bryan Osterday, Co-Chairman of Autism Speaks. "It's really important to us and we appreciate all of the hard work."
