BAYOU VISTA, LA (WAFB) -
A
44-year-old woman died when the car she was riding in was rear-ended by a truck
early Friday morning.
Louisiana
State Police said Laura Walker of New Iberia was pronounced dead at the scene by
the St. Mary Parish coroner.
The crash
happened on US 90 East at Southeast Boulevard in Bayou Vista just before 1 a.m.
Troopers said a 2012 Dodge Ram slammed into the back of a 2004 Honda Accord
stopped at the intersection.
Brandon
Smith, 22, of New Iberia was driving the Accord. He and two of his passengers,
who were also from New Iberia, were hurt in the accident. Smith, William
Walker, 27, and Willamae Collins, 44, were all taken to the hospital with
moderate injuries.
The driver
of the pickup was not injured. He has not been charged in the crash. Investigators
said they don't yet know if impairment was a factor in the crash, so blood
samples were taken and submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for
analysis.
