LSU senior pitcher Rachele Fico threw a complete game shut-out as the 10-ranked softball team LSU softball team Virginia 4-0.
Fico retired 12 straight batters at one point in the game. She gave up only 4 hits, walked 1 batter and struck out 11 to improve to 5-0.
All the offense was provided by two newcomers for the Tigers. Freshmen first basemen Sandra Simmons who went 2-3 with 3 RBI including a 2-run single in the 1st to start the scoring for LSU. She later added a RBI double in the 6th inning.
The other run came off the bat of freshmen infielder Bianka Bell when she blasted a solo homer to right-center in the third inning, which was her second home run of the year.
The Tigers collected 6 hits as a team in the win to improve them to 8-1.
