CHICOPEE, MA (WSHM) -
There was a golden celebration of sorts Saturday at Chicopee High School.
The school's gym was the site of the 50th anniversary of Cheer Invitational Tournament.
The gym was packed with 27 teams from all over Western and Central Mass competing to take the top spot.
Organizers of the event expected more than 1,000 people to be in attendance for the celebration.
The Chicopee cheerleaders were not allowed to compete in the event because they were hosting it, but they kicked off the celebration by performing an exhibition routine.
