A Butler County man is using social media in hopes of finding his biological family.
Michael Hayes, 35, has been looking for his biological family for most of his life. However, after beginning his search on Facebook nearly a week ago, Hayes' efforts seem to be paying off.
Michael found out he was adopted when he was in the fifth grade. His adoptive parents told him little about his biological mother.
"It was just the same old story over and over again," said Michael. "She just wasn't fit to be a mother. She was always out partying; she was a party junkie, always out on the street and everything."
About seven years ago, Michael's mother informed him that he had a younger brother. Michael's mother also informed him that he had an older brother who had died.
Michael also learned that he was named Kevin Cantrell at birth, Michael and his wife April began looking on Facebook for a Cantrell connection.
"We messaged every Cantrell in the Middletown area with his story on the Facebook to see if they would remember any family members having their kids taken away and being adopted out," said April Hayes.
Some people have responded with support.
"They told us about their stories," said April. "Sometimes they're devastating, sometimes they're really positive, but they express the importance to find out your background and where you come from."
Michael says these stories have given him strength for what has been a difficult journey.
"People are out there and they're wonderful," said Michael. "They're wanting to help and that means a lot. It really means a lot."
