DENHAM SPRINGS, LA (WAFB) -
A 37-year-old man is dead after a three-vehicle crash that shut down I-12 East for seven hours Monday morning.
The Denham Springs Police Department identified him as Melvin Beecham of Baton Rouge. He was driving the car involved in the wreck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Charges have not been filed.
The crash happened on I-12 East at Juban Road in Denham Springs just before 1 a.m. The roadway was reopened around 8:15 a.m.
Police said the wreck involved a 1984 Cadillac Deville, 2013 Ford Econoline van and 2005 International 18-wheeler pulling a box cargo trailer. The 18-wheeler caught fire, but the trailer was empty.
Police said four people in the van reported minor injuries.
