BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB/AP) -

Southern moved closer to a SWAC regular season title and number one seed for next month's SWAC Tournament, after rolling past Alabama A&M Monday night in Baton Rouge 81-67.

Derek Beltran and Malcolm Miller each scored 21 points to lead the Jaguars, who are now 13-2 in the league and lead UAPB and Texas Southern in the standings with just three games left in the regular season.

Javan Mitchell added 13 points and Jameel Grace 12 for Southern, which opened the game on a 14-2 run and led by at least seven the rest of the way.

Beltran and Miller combined to go 13-of-23 shooting, accounting for exactly half of the Jaguars' made baskets.

Southern (16-10, 10-2), winners of three straight, outshot Alabama A&M 48 percent (26 of 54) to 42 percent (24 of 57). The Jaguars struggled from the stripe, 22 of 32 compared to 12 of 17 for Bulldogs, but registered a 14 to 4 assist-to-turnover ratio.

Demarquelle Tabb led Alabama A&M (9-16, 5-9) with 22 points of 10-of-14 shooting but the other four Bulldog starters shot a combined 13 of 34.

Southern closes out its home schedule Saturday against Alcorn State and finishes the schedule with visits to TSU and Prairie View next week.

The Southern Lady Jags lost Monday night's first game to Alabama A&M 64-47, as the Lady Bulldogs made six of their eleven three point attempts, while SU was just 2-16.
