Lady Tigers prepare for important week

Nikki Caldwell and her LSU Lady Tigers are entering a very pivotal stretch in their season.

Why is it so pivotal?

Baton Rouge is a host site for the first and second round of the NCAA tournament, and LSU is currently a 12 seed in that regional.

A few weeks ago that was a different story. The Lady Tigers were not in the NCAA picture after back to back losses to Texas A&M and Tennessee at home. The loss to the Lady Vols was a heart breaker that came from a last second basket after leading for most of the game.

Since then LSU has bounced back with back to back wins over then No. 9 Georgia and Mississippi State to bump the Lady Tigers record to 15-10, 6-6 SEC.

LSU dominated Mississippi State Sunday 63-41, with the help of freshman Danielle Ballard. Ballard added seven rebounds and four steals to go with her 19 points as she was named SEC freshman of the week.

LSU has a chance to help their tournament cause this week with a road game at Missouri, which will be the Lady Tigers first trip to Columbia since 1989. The Lady Tigers won that contest 56-50.

Caldwell said Missouri is a team that shoots the three ball really well, and it showed in an upset win over Tennessee as they hit 11 three pointers.

The game between LSU and Missouri will tip off at 8 p.m. and can be seen on Fox Sports Southwest.

LSU will return home Sunday for a showdown with No.7 Kentucky. The Lady Wildcats beat the Lady Tigers 73-60 on January 27 in Lexington, Kentucky. LSU stayed with Kentucky until the final two minutes of the game. That game will be a 12:30 p.m. start from the PMAC with no television.
