Baptist South still working to fix source of power failure

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Authorities with Baptist South Hospital in Montgomery continue with efforts to fix a piece of equipment that failed Monday morning, resulting in a need to put the facility on emergency power.

Hospital spokesman Tommy McKinnon says a electrical bus bar, which conducts electricity from the facility's service building to the hospital, is still being installed after delivery Tuesday.

McKinnon said hopes are to have the entire facility back to 100 percent power by 6:00 P.M.

Until the system is fully operational again, McKinnon says elective surgeries are being rescheduled. Surgeries for life-threatening conditions are still being conducted, he said.

Electricity is being routed to critical areas of the hospital, including nursing stations and patient rooms. While McKinnon says there's not exactly full lighting, everyone has adequate light.

Most notable for some are inoperable televisions, which are not considered critical.

McKinnon said authorities are working with area hospitals in case there is a need to send some patients to other facilities.
