The Monroe Tornadoes bounce back from a disappointing region championship loss to beat Dutchtown 78-55 in the first round of the GHSA AAAA boys basketball tournament Tuesday at the Monroe gym.
Jabari McGhee and Darien Anderson sparked Monroe to a 21-10 first quarter lead and the Tornadoes ended a streak of first round losses in the previous two years.
McGhee finished with 24 points and Anderson scored 19.
"We had talked about their scorers which was number 20, 23 and 1. we have got to know where they were at all times. I thought our guards did a very good job and we rebounded well tonight. I thought we played as a team," said head coach Marquis Davis.
Monroe will play the Rutland/Liberty County winner in the 2nd round.
Monroe will host if they play Liberty County.
One other boys scores on Tuesday, Macon County knocks 1-AA champ Pelham 56-53.
