Non-profit providing animal care for low-income families

LOCKLAND, OH (FOX19) -

If you have pets, caring for them can get expensive. A new veterinary clinic is helping to combat that cost for local residents.

Jean Hurley has a dog named Sandy. Hurley says she's not your typical Chihuahua mix, who tends to get a little nervous and also suffers from Epilepsy.

She used to frequently take Sandy to a veterinary hospital, but had to stop because of the cost.

"With the cost of health care for animals these days it's almost as expensive as myself going to the doctor," said Hurley.

As a result, she turned to Pets in Need, a new organization helping low-income families care for their pets.

It's a non-profit she says she wouldn't know what to do without.

Pets in Need of Greater Cincinnati focuses on preventative health care, spay and neutering, de-worming and more. The food comes from partnerships with Kroger and the Freestore Foodbank, and the organization is funded by a special grant.

Pets in Need is located at 520 W. Wyoming Avenue in Lockland.

Those interested in seeking the organization's services need to apply online via their website.
