MT. PLEASANT, MI (WNEM) -

The Mount Pleasant Police Department said a suspect they believe is linked to an armed robbery at a Subway restaurant was taken into custody.

Authorities did not say if the man was linked to four other armed robberies that occurred in the city of Mount Pleasant over a three-day stretch.

Police are not releasing the suspect's name or photo, but the composite sketch in this story was created with help from a clerk at the Next Door Food Store, which was also robbed during the three-day armed robbery spree. Some investigators have speculated that it is possible all five robberies were not committed by the same man.

Police were looking for a white or Hispanic male, standing at about 5'9" tall.  Mount Pleasant business owners tell TV5 they've been on edge with the string of break-ins.

"I don't want to be thinking I'm next, you know," said Gregory Koutz, who is the Main Street Audio-Video assistant manager.

The wave of violence started Saturday and the most recent happened Monday at the "Check N Cash" store on South Mission Street at about 2 p.m.

Before the robbery at the cash store, the most recent incident happened at a Subway restaurant on Mission Avenue near Mosher Street at about 11 p.m. Sunday. The suspect is being described as a Hispanic, white or possibly Native American male, between 5'7" and 5'9" with a thin build.

Police also responded to a robbery at the Next Door Food Store at 1324 W. High St. The suspect entered the store with a handgun and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Another robbery happened at the Advance America Cash Advance at 1717 S. Mission Ave. Another incident took place at another Next Door Food Store location at 2015 E. Remus Rd. in Union Township.

Mount Pleasant police spokesman Jeff Thompson said that the similarity of the robberies has led the department to believe the incidents may be related.

The ongoing armed robberies forced Mount Pleasant schools into a soft lockdown mode on Monday. Students were kept indoors and all but one door at each school were locked.

A $500 reward was being offered for tips that lead to an arrest and conviction.  Even though there is a suspect in jail tonight, Koutz says he's still going to stay alert.

"Hopefully they can catch everyone that's involved," said Koutz.

Authorities said the man is expected to be arraigned sometime Thursday. Stay with WNEM.com and TV5 as we learn more about the suspect and this case.
