CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -

A former Sugar Creek charter school employee arrested Tuesday is facing several sex offense charges involving a juvenile, according to a report from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.

38 year old James Taylor had his first court appearance on Thursday. The judge sent him back to jail with no bond. He is still placed under a $370,000 bond. His bond hearing is March 4th and his probable cause hearing is March 13th.

The alleged incidents occurred inside Sugar Creek Charter School between January and February 19. The offenses involved a 12-year-old student, the report states. Parents wonder if Taylor was still working at the school after the alleged crime happened. He was fired on February 19th.

School administrators don't know much about the investigation nor when the incident occurred and police aren't saying.

James Taylor was arrested Tuesday and charged with two felony counts of indecent liberties with a student, two counts of indecent liberties with a child, two counts of rape of a child, and a seventh sex offense charge.

Taylor has worked at the Sugar Creek since 2001. Administrators say a background check was done on him and he passed. Another was conducted in 2011 and that also came back clean.

School officials told WBTV Taylor has been a tutor and a teacher's assistant, but recently he was an In School Suspension (ISS) coordinator.

Parents tell us Taylor was popular with the students and are shocked this happened. They also tell WBTV Taylor has three kids who attend Sugar Creek Charter.

The principal says it is school policy students cannot be left alone with students unless the door is wide open.

The principal also says this arrest has not gotten in the way of learning.
