BAY MINETTE, Ala. (AP) - District Attorney's officials in south Alabama say two teens have been granted youthful offender status in a fatal shooting at a Gravine Island fish camp.

In a release Wednesday, district Attorney Hallie Dixon said Scott Byrd and Daniel Parnell have been granted youthful offender status in the death of 17-year-old Summer Moody.

The status limits sentencing and probation lengths and restricts information that may be released publically. The teens applied for the protection in mid-January.

Moody was wounded by a warning shot during an alleged burglary in April. Authorities say three men confronted the teens and 1 of them fired a warning shot, but none of them have been charged in the girl's death.

Dixon has said charging the teens was appropriate because they were participating in a felony.
