MORGAN COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
Morgan County deputies arrested a Brewer High School Student late Wednesday night. Brandon Corey Smithson was charged with making a terrorist threat.
An investigator said 18-year-old Smithson wrote a threat in a bathroom saying he would bring a gun to school.
An employee on the Board of Education called the sheriff's office after her son told her he was worried about going to school after reading something written on the bathroom wall.
Deputies said the words written on the bathroom wall were the lines from a popular song ending with "P.S. I'm bringing a gun tomorrow."
School administrators working with sheriff's deputies were able to identify the writer as Smithson and arrested him without incident. Authorities said the teen did not have any weapons on him when they took him into custody at his grandmother's home.
Smithson is currently being held at the Morgan County Jail awaiting a bail hearing.
The school was placed on modified lockdown Thursday as a precaution. The superintendent said they put the school on modified lockdown to reassure the public and to cut down on rumors that may circulate.
Parents were concerned about the incident. Karen Woodward, a parent, said she wants to see more security measures taken.
The district confirmed
they are going to take a closer look at putting more student resource officers
in schools. That discussion could be discussed as early as the next board
meeting.
