CORYDON, IN (WAVE) - A Harrison County doctor may be facing charges for Medicaid fraud, sexual abuse, and drug dealing. The county prosecutor says Dr. Paul Kelty is being investigated for possibly running a pill mill out of his doctor's office with over one million pills prescribed since 2008.

"Since 2008 alone, six of Dr. Kelty's patients who had been receiving controlled substances, fatally overdosed," says Harrison County Prosecutor J. Otto Schalk.

The probable cause affidavit alleges that Kelty has been sexually abusing some female patients who have visited his office and prescribing dangerous cocktails of the drugs, Xanax and hydrocodone to pregnant mothers-to-be.

"The interviews presented in the affidavit also allege that multiple patients were continually prescribed the same amount of substances throughout pregnancy," said Schalk. "As a result, newborn babies under Kelty's care have been born addicted to controlled substances and subsequently had to undergo treatment for these addictions following their birth."

Kelty is under investigation Medicaid fraud because of allegations that he performed unnecessary procedures and scheduled unnecessary office visits.

A search warrant was executed early Thursday at Kelty's Corydon, Indiana office. The office was closed during the execution of the search warrant and documents were seized. Kelty has not been charged a crime or arrested. The prosecutor says his office could be open for business as early as Friday.
