Police, DEA bust Thumb-area meth lab

HURON COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Huron County Sheriff's deputies and Bad Axe police officers discovered a methamphetamine lab in a bedroom of a home in Bad Axe.

The discovery was made Thursday after narcotics were purchased at the residence.

Officers executed a search warrant at 215 W. Butler Street and when the possibly explosive meth lab was found, they evacuated the house and set up a perimeter. Fumes from the creation of meth are highly flamable.  

Firefighters used self-contained breathing apparatuses to enter the residence. After the home was ventilated, the Drug Enforcement Agency arrived with a Bay Area Narcotics Enforcement HAZMAT team. Upon searching the residence, authorities said they found heroin, cocaine, methamphetamines, drug paraphernalia, meth making ingredients and money.

Officers said they arrested a 21-year-old Detroit man and a 30-year-old Bad Axe man. A third man who was not at the house at the time of the raid is being sought by authorities.
