(Toledo News Now) -

We've all seen tattoos that range from the terrible to the generic to the sublime. But one particular tattoo may stand out as the poster-child for bad ink – at least on the Internet.

"I couldn't believe my eyes when this guy walked in and showed me this project. I think my jaw literally hit the floor," writes tattoo artist Scott Versago on his Facebook page.

The tattoo, based on a picture of a blushing bride, bears little resemblance to the smiling woman in the photograph. The garish teeth and hot pink cursive only helped earn the tattoo an online reputation of one of the worst portrait tattoos ever.

The story gets worse. Versago, a tattoo artist with Empire Ink in Akron, Ohio says the man with the tattoo got it to remember his wife -- who was killed in a house fire just three months after they got married. He says the man was then left to raise his three children as a single dad.

When Versago first heard the story, he says he offered to meet up at the tattoo parlor to see what he might be able to do to help improve the tattoo. Touched by what happened, he says he fixed the tattoo for free.

"Now he has closure and I have an amazing story to add to my portfolio!" Versago says.
