MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
The Alabama State Department of Education is expanding its
investigation into grade-changing within the Montgomery Public School
system.
The State's initial investigation found as many as 200 students
had their grades changed at three area high schools.
State
Superintendent Dr. Tommy Bice says he will not discuss the scope of the
investigation until it is completed. This more expansive investigation
is being done independently of any MPS involvement.
Dr. Bice said
the initial investigation was designed to be limited in scope to allow
MPS to take appropriate action on its own. A total of six employees went
on leave after both a state and MPS investigation confirmed grade
changing within the system.
Officials said evidence cleared three
employees and shows a fourth acted only on the direction of a supervisor
who is no longer with the system.
There is still substantial evidence against two other employees.
