AUBURN, AL (WTVM) -
A new restaurant is coming to Auburn, featuring "Alabama cuisine" created by celebrated east Alabama chef David Bancroft.
Bancroft and his family broke ground on "Acre" on Friday. The new restaurant will open this fall on East Glenn in Auburn.
To celebrate on this chilly day, Bancroft served his homemade Brunswick stew and some bubbly.
"Acre is a community project we don't want it to stand out in the community; we want it to blend in perfectly with this area," Bancroft said. "This is just the beginning of a lifelong journey for my wife and I and hopefully it's a great life in Auburn."
When Acre opens, Bancroft says he is dedicated to using fresh meat and vegetables grown by local farmers.
Bancroft is the executive chef at the AU Club.
Acre will be participating in the 2012 Atlanta Food and Wine Festival later this year.
