The year was 1912.

The Republic of China was proclaimed. The Titanic sank. William Howard Taft was president. The Girl Scouts were founded.

It was also the year Dottie Kling was born.

Dottie, a Newport native, turns 101-years-old on Saturday. In celebration, her friends and family threw a birthday party for her at the Barrington of Fort Thomas on Friday.

She is the widow of a World War II veteran named Mathias, and today, she is as healthy as can be.

At the age of 101, Dottie takes very little medication and doesn't use a walker or cane for assistance.
