CLERMONT COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -
A Clermont county teenager is celebrating her
birthday in a very selfless manner.
Instead of asking for gifts for her
seventeenth birthday, Carsen Gerome is asking for donations for the UC women's
softball team.
Gerome, a junior at McNicholas High School,
has been playing softball all of her life. She recently found out that the
UC Women's softball team would not receive funding this year due to school
budget cuts. The team was left to scramble for funds to make their season
happen.
Gerome took it upon her shoulders to help out
the team.
"I decided to do this because they let me
come to this team and they've been so nice to me. They welcomed me and helped me," said Gerome. "l'm
trying to pay it forward because they helped me and I know they need my help
right now."
Gerome decided to throw herself a birthday
party to raise money for the cause. In lieu of gifts, Gerome is asking for a
$10 donation from everyone in attendance. Over 600 friends have been invited.
Gerome's birthday party will be held Saturday
evening at 299 Haskell Lane in Batavia on the Red Barn Flea Market property. The
event is open to the public.
Donations will be collected at the door by members of the UC Clermont softball team.
