WARREN COUNTY, OH (FOX19) -

An Indiana man is suing the Boys Scouts of America in connection with alleged child sex abuse during a field trip in 1999.

Warren County attorney Konrad Kircher filed a lawsuit Tuesday on behalf of Thomas Abner, who claims it happened at a hotel room during a troop field trip to Kings Island Amusement Park. Kircher says his client wanted his name released as part of the healing process.

The troop was from Muncie, Indiana. The victim, who now lives in Arizona, claims his Scoutmaster abused him four or five times in the hotel. He couldn't remember the name of the hotel, but says the incidents in Warren County were among 300 incidents that happened in total.

Kircher said the Scoutmaster, Steve Woodard, was convicted of one count related to the abuse in 2002, and later died of liver failure.

Abner is now claiming negligence and fraud against the Boy Scouts because in 2006, Ohio extended its statue of limitations.

"The statute of limitations extention was long overdue. And is very welcome. This shows the necessity of statute of limitations reform. It's gaining momentum in other states that have extended the statute of limitations even further," said Abner's attorney, Konrad Kircher.

Kircher said he's teaming up with attorney Kelly Clark of O'Donnell Clark & Crew LLP and attorney Paul Mones of Portland, Oregon in the case, who led a $19.5 million verdict against the Boy Scouts in 2010. The trial, Kerry Lewis v. Boy Scouts, forced the first public release of the Boy Scout's internal "Perversion" files on known pedophiles.
