BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -
About fifty Birmingham students who took part in the 100 Days of Non-Violence program were given an award for their efforts.
The first ever Coretta Scott King Angel Award went to the program recognizing its commitment to non-violence.
The non-violent program is an initiative of Birmingham City Councilman Jay Roberson. The students and Roberson gave the award to the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute to display yesterday.
Councilman Roberson says, due to the success of the program, other cities like Atlanta and Chicago are looking to do the same thing.
