TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) -

A woman murdered in her own home is being remembered by her co-workers tonight.

Kate Ragsdale, a longtime librarian at the University of Alabama, was killed in The Highlands community in Tuscaloosa.

One colleague remembers Kate Ragsdale as positive, energetic and full of life. It makes her murder all the more shocking to people that knew her.

Angela Wright worked with Ragsdale for more than 20 years at the University of Alabama. She talked to her last year in preparation for giving her a distinguished alumni award.

Kate Ragsdale worked her way up as a UA employee, starting out in a clerical position, then moving up to a librarian and finally a planning officer for university libraries.

News that someone killed her shocks her former co-workers. Wright said that on Monday, you could "feel something in the air" as people tried to do their jobs all the while wondering why someone would kill her.

A neighbor found Ragsdale's body Sunday inside her home. Investigators now say she was stabbed to death.

Wright tells us Ragsdale was well liked. Even in retirement, she was active and wanted to help others. Wright already misses her friend.

"She was the person you thought of always being here. So just her presence, it's going to be hard to...think of the library without her popping in and out," Wright said.

The investigation continues into Ragsdale's murder. So far, police have not identified a suspect in the case.
