PHOENIX (CBS5) -

A tractor-trailer carrying a load of mulch crashed and rolled on eastbound Interstate 10 near its split with Interstate 17 in Phoenix on Wednesday morning, creating chaos for early morning commuters.

The crash blocked all but one lane and eastbound traffic was funneled onto the shoulder to pass, creating a backup as long as five miles.

Traffic backed up on I-10 and the other freeways that join it - I-17 and State Route 51. Alternate routes included Loop 202, but the stalled traffic was extending to areas outside central Phoenix.

The crash was cleaned up and the I-10 lanes reopened about 11 a.m.

No word yet on what caused the crash.
