WASHINGTON D.C. (WAFF) -
U.S. Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Ala.), who represents parts of the Tennessee Valley, is sponsoring a bill in hopes to avoid sequestration.
H.R. 607, sponsored by Rep. Mac Thornberry (R-Texas) aims to end or reduce the impact of the upcoming, across-the-board budget cuts.
"I am co-sponsoring this bill to end the sequester, as I have previous bills to help protect our national defense, because the White House and Senate persist in being Absent Without Leave; the Senate has never even voted on any legislation that ends or reduces the impact of sequestration. H.R. 607 replaces sequestration with a delay in the implementation of Obamacare, thereby saving taxpayers $130 billion that can be shifted to restore defense and other program cuts," Brooks said.
If not acted upon, major spending cuts are scheduled to go into effect beginning Friday.
