A New Jersey company is recalling more than 8,000 pounds of sausage that may contain plastic.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) made the announcement on Wednesday and said the problem was discovered when Schmalz's European Provisions received three consumer complaints.
FSIS and Schmalz's said they have not received any reports of injuries.
The product is a 12-ounce vacuum package of "Applegate Organics Chicken and Apple Sausage" with a freeze-by date of March 17, 2013, and has the number P-5411 inside the USDA mark of inspection. The sausage was produced on Jan. 24, and was sold in retail stores nationwide and through limited internet sales in New Jersey.
