Good-hearted KCTV5, radio fans help out snow-bound woman

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

An injustice to a snowbound woman has been corrected and is all thanks to good-hearted Kansas City residents.

Over the weekend, KCTV5 News and KCTV5.com shared the story of Paula Bradfield, who has multiple sclerosis. A nearby church and learning center dumped the snow off their lots onto a city alleyway, blocking her in.

The city said they could fine the two entities, but they weren't removing the snow.

The radio station 96.5 The Buzz picked up the story. Outraged residents began discussing what they could do to help Bradfield, who had no way to get to her car to drive herself around. She was relying on co-workers to give her a ride to work and her friends gave her a ride to church and the grocery store.

Total strangers showed up to clear a path from her home to her vehicle. She lives near 61st Street and Harrison Avenue.

"This has been the best Monday I've had in years," Bradfield said.

Adam Stangle operates Advance Lawn Care and Snow Removal. He saw the story on KCTV5's mobile app and knew he had to do something.

"I was like, 'Man, I could get a plow and help her.' And then I was driving in to meet my buddy for breakfast and the Buzz was talking about it," Stangl recalled.

The Buzz DJs were incredulous at the rudeness of Bradfield's neighbors who had pinned her inside her own home. Afentra's Big Fat Morning Buzz offered concert tickets and free advertising to anyone who helped the woman out.

They made an on-air promise to Bradfield to get her taken care of.

"It's real rewarding to help," Stangl said.

Jacob Caldwell heard the plea for help and drove in from Lawrence with a shovel.

"Life should be about helping people out, not what you can get out of it," Caldwell said.

While Bradfield was at work, Good Samaritans were cleaning off her driveway. She couldn't wait to get home to retrieve her vehicle and head to the drug store.

Bradfield thanked everyone who rallied to her support, especially Stangl and Caldwell.

"Words can't express how grateful I am because I thought it would be at least two more weeks before I could get my car out," she said.
