MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Authorities with the Montgomery Police Department say they've arrested and charged the wife of a 77-year-old man with his murder.

Investigators say Madie Ivey, 76, was taken into custody and charged with one count of murder in the death of Dave Ivey.

Police and paramedics were called to the 200 block of Eastdale Road South around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday on the report of a stabbing.

When first responders arrived on the scene, they located Mr. Ivey, who had been struck on the head. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

An initial investigation indicates that the Ivey's were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated and resulted in the man's death.

Mrs. Ivey was taken into custody on the scene and transported to the Montgomery County Detention Facility. She's being held on a $75,000 bond.

Dave Ivey's death marks the 13th homicide of 2013 in the city of Montgomery.
