BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) -
Police have identified a man and woman that were killed in an apparent murder-suicide Wednesday afternoon at a Bossier City hair salon.
Bossier City police spokesperson Mark Natale says 43-year-old Lavance Williams, of Minden, went into Textures and Tones, a hair salon in the 1600 block of Airline Drive and shot his estranged wife, 33-year-old Lashontay Lewis, also of Minden.
Lewis operated a tax service that was inside the salon.
Natale says there were five other people inside the salon when the shooting began about 4:20 p.m. None of the other five people, including the couple's 11-year-old child, were injured.
Based on evidence at the scene and statements from witnesses, it appears Williams shot Lewis during an argument and then shot himself. Police are still investigating.
Natale says there isn't any record of prior incidents involving the couple.
Close friends of the couple were shocked, and say Lashontay Lewis and Lavance Williams had been together since high school, and that their relationship showed no outward appearance of domestic problems.
Lashontay, or Jimese as she's known by friends is from Minden Louisiana and described as having a very outgoing and bubbly personality. Lavance is described as a more reserved and quiet person. Both reportedly had a very strong Christian faith.
Friends say Jimese grew up on Edna Street in Mansfield, where her family members still live.
"Oh, Jimese was loving. Her personality was big. Every time you seen her she had a smile on her face," said Katina Sowls, a longtime friend and neighbor of the Lewis family.
Sowls says she grew up on the same street Jimese grew up on, and says she would have never anticipated such a violent end to both of their lives. She says she knew Lavance very well too.
"Lavance was a quiet person, he was loving," said Sowls.
Other friends from the neighborhood said the couple was not estranged, as police described them. In fact one friend, who did not want to be identified, said that the two were together for nearly 20 years, and showed no signs of having any problems.
