Selma Police Chief William T. Riley III is confirming the arrest of a suspect in connection to a recent homicide.
Authorities took 20-year-old Joshua McClendon into custody at 4 p.m. in the 900 block of Alabama Avenue.
McClendon is charged with murder and failure of an adult sex offender to register with local law enforcement.
Investigators were called to the Beech Creek Apartments Sunday evening in reference to someone being shot. When officers arrived, they found the victim, unidentified, in the roadway next to the driver side of a vehicle.
The victim, who had been shot in the chest, was transported to an area hospital where he later died.
A motive has not been provided.
McClendon's bond is set at $2.5 million. It was not immediately known if he had legal representation.
