ADEM Distributes Flyers to Vista View Residents

The Alabama Department of Environmental Management was in a Montgomery neighborhood Friday to let residents know about plans to clean up their contaminated subdivision.

But resident Tonia Long is not satisfied. "They're saying there's not enough contaminants to affect us unless we have contact with the water in the ditch and I don't believe that to be true because it is an underground contamination and with changes in the weather and environment, it will surface.

ADEM has ordered a fence built around a TCE contaminated ditch near the neighborhood. Residents of Vista View received handouts explaining the chemical tri-chloro-ethylene and its effects. TCE was found in the ground water near the community. The fliers are a way of keeping homeowners informed about the state's plans for cleaning up the contamination.
