PARMA, OH (WOIO) -
Parma Police Narcotic Detectives arrest a man and woman they say started a fire in an apartment while cooking meth.
The fire happened on Feb. 22 at 5257 Knollwood, #8.
Bryan Kneuss, 22, and Amber Darrow, 19, were found Thursday hiding out in a motel in Macedonia, registered under a fictitious name.
At approximately 8:15 PM on Feb. 22, Parma Fire Department received a call of smoke coming from the apartment leased by Darrow.
Responding units discovered that the occupants of the apartment had fled and were no longer on scene.
A small fire in a bedroom was extinguished by the firemen who observed chemicals associated with clandestine methamphetamine production. The scene was turned over to the police who called in a Hazmat team.
Special Agent John Butterworth of the Bureau of Criminal Investigation responded to process the scene.
Once he properly secured, documented and disposed of specific chemicals, it was determined that those who had been evacuated from surrounding apartments could safely return.
Kneuss and Darrow are charged with illegal manufacture of drugs, assembly of chemicals for the manufacture of drugs, and possession of criminal tools.
Both are currently being held in the Cuyahoga County Jail.
