NOGALES, AZ (CBS5) -

A total of $464,250 unclaimed U.S. money was found in a nightstand in the back a Ford truck that was trying to enter Mexico through the Nogales port of entry by Customs and Border Protection officers Wednesday night.

The Ford truck was selected for a secondary inspection where a CBP canine alerted officers to the hidden money in the nightstand. A male Mexican national was driving the truck and told officers that he had just purchased the nightstand along with other household items, according to CBP.

The man and was arrested for attempting to smuggle the $464,250 unreported U.S. currency. He along with the truck, household items and money were turned over to state and local authorities for further processing.
