PHOENIX (AP/CBS5) -

A man was sentenced to 14 years in prison in the fatal shooting of a 78-year-old man who was taking an evening walk in a Phoenix park.

Nadeem Alferikh agreed to plead guilty to manslaughter and serve 14 years in the Arizona Department of Corrections in a plea deal and was sentenced on Monday afternoon, according to the Maricopa County Superior Court.

On March 6, co-defendant Brandon Martin Roberts was convicted of of first-degree murder, attempted armed robbery and possessing a firearm as a minor, according to the Maricopa County attorney's office.

Milton Raffle, a Korean War veteran, was shot in the head while walking in a park near 2400 W. Cactus Rd. on July 19, 2011. He was found unconscious and unresponsive shortly after midnight and later died at a hospital with his family by his side.

Alferikh and Roberts claimed self-defense, but they admitted patting down Raffle's pockets after the shooting.
